Change Remote Desktop Port (Terminal Services)

Most of you have probably noticed that your ISP has blocked the normal TCP port (3389) for Remote Desktop, this is usually for security reasons. Also it is possible that you are attempting to connect to your computer remotely and are behind a firewall that restricts certian ports. Sometimes changing the port to a different one will allow this to work.

To change the port for remote desktop, Goto Start Run and type REGEDIT into the run box and click OK.

Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SYSTEM --> CurrentControlSet --> Control --> Terminal Server WinStations --> RDP-Tcp

Right Click on PortNumber and click Modify Select Decimal and enter the desired TCP port number.
Click OK when finished. Your computer may need to be restarted for the changed to take effect.

Now you connect to your remote desktop as you did before, except, after your IP address you enter :Port

Type your IP address followed by : and the port number into the remote desktop client.
