Disable Indexing Service

The indexing service creates a database of all the files on your harddisks so that file searches can be performed faster. This service uses a large amount of memory and resources for very little gain in search performance. If you don't perform a large number of file searches daily then I suggest you disable this service.

To disable the indexing service, goto the Control Panel --> Administrative Tools (Under Performance and Maintainence in category view) --> Services. Locate the Indexing Service, right click on it and choose properties. Change Startup Type to Disabled and click OK. Reboot your computer and the indexing service will no longer run. If you decide you need the service in the future, just set the Statup Type to Automatic.
